I love me some banjos. And bluegrass. I've been trying to figure out where I got my love of bluegrass music and I think it comes from those Saturday nights when we listened to Prairie Home Companion growing up. On our way to my grandparent's house we always listened to PHC and a bluegrass special on npr. My parents raised me right.

Have I ever mentioned that Death Cab for Cutie is my favorite band? Maybe not. I realized that if I had to pick one band or artist to be the soundtrack to my life it would be Death Cab. Upon realizing this, I proceeded to listen to them on shuffle all day long. So come on, listen to Ben Gibbard's beautiful voice and tell me that I've made a good pick in fav band ever...

From most of my Music Mondays posts one would assume that I'm one of those music snobs who only listens to pretentious indie bands. Well, I'm not. In fact I just really love all kinds of music and if I like something...well then I like it and that's that. So yes, Jessie J is a little out of my norm but I love this song and have been rocking out to it the entire time I've been home. Chloe says its like a better version of Katy Perry's "Last Friday Night" and I couldn't agree more!

Music Mondays! A Tad Bit Late

So, due to the final performance of my show I forgot to post my Music Monday's post. And now its 1:17 in the morning and here I am sharing some of my favorite tunes. Seriously, Sufjan is one of my favorites.  A lot of people didn't like this album, because it is so different from his previous work, but I'm in love with it. This is the first song on the album and I think its absolutely entrancing. Enjoy!

Everyone know that MIKA song "Grace Kelly" right? Well, this weekend, I watched Monte Carlo with my sister (don't judge, it was cute) and I noticed there were a lot of MIKA songs featured...thus prompting a two day obsession with the band. Did anyone see the vow this weekend? Well, this gal did! And the entire time I couldn't believe they played this great song by the National. I think the National is one of my top favorite bands for sure. They are tied with Death Cab and Passion Pit in my best of the best ever list. So, yeah...just listen to this song and marvel in their greatness. No really.

To say I'm obsessed with Kimbra's song "Settle Down" is a bit of an understatement. One of my friends posted this video to Facebook on Saturday night and about 50 seconds in I bought the song on itunes. This is a rare occasion folks. Also, this is the only song I've listened to since. Unless you count the Fleet Foxes Madeline has been playing. But as far as me choosing music to listen to, this has pretty much been it. 

And can I just say the video is brilliant. Really reminds me of St. Vincent's video for "Cruel." I like creepy videos and this is definitely one of them. Enjoy!

Over the weekend my friends from college and I had a little music exchange. Madeline gave me this Jens Lekman album and I have been hooked since. I. LOVE. THIS. SONG. I mean, seriously I adore this song. Just listen to it please!

Clearly I'm really excited for Music Mondays hence the three exclamation points. But seriously instead of just one song I'm going to share.... 5 songs! Yeah, that's right. I'm just into the spirit of giving! Although its more like sharing, but whatever. Enjoy some lovely obscure Christmas tunes...

Um, I'm in love with this song. Seriously its great! Everyone should give it a listen.

Now this one, people may hate me for posting. Mostly because it is electro. I know not everyone likes it but sometimes its worth while. I just enjoyed finding some quality electro christmas music.

I feel like by the end of this month there will be so many Sufjan Christmas songs I've featured in Music Mondays, but I have to admit they are the best. Plus I dig the banjo.

I just like to hear Cameron sing. And see him in a cutie pie 1950's sweater.

I love The Bird and the Bee soooo much! We actually did this arrangement of carol of the bells last year in choir and I couldn't have been more excited!

Now that its December I can finally listen to Christmas music without feeling guilty! So I was thinking this month that music mondays could include my favorite Christmas music. So here's a little Sufjan for your holly jolly pleasure.

I almost completely forgot music mondays! Eeek! Good thing I remembered...

Okay, everyone might disown me for this, but my song choice for the week is Make Me Proud by Drake and Nicki Minaj. I know, this is very uncharacteristic of me...but I can't help it. I'm a Drake fan! It all started when he was on Degrassi....I know I know....

So to redeem myself a little, here's Afternoon by Youth Lagoon. This has been another favorite this week. Its definitely a little more me.

I don't know why, but its a Passion Pit kinda day. One thing I'm thankful for is Michael Angelakos' gorgeous falsetto. When are they gonna put out a new album?!! I'm praying it will come for my birthday. That would be a nice present!

I've been loving this song lately. Not sure why, but it sounds so fall to me... The artist is Loquat and the song is "Swingset Chain." If you don't know them, you should check them out. They are very interesting.

Girl Put Your Records On

So instead of Music Mondays, where I share a song I'm loving I thought I'd share about something else music related. One of the saddest parts of college (I'm one for dramatics) is that I don't have my record player here with me. I have a beautiful Crosley turntable and love it, however, I didn't think I'd have room for it here in the dorm. But my roommate and I were talking and we think some space can be spared for the sake of vinyl.

As a music enthusiast I appreciate all forms of music. I dig mp3s, cds, tapes, and yes classic vinyl. I like the sound of a record. You know the distorted kinda scratchy sound. Love it! I always feel like I'm in the 1950's when I'm listening to my records. I realized this week that there are lots of records I really want for Christmas this year.

First up on the ole wishlist would be the She and Him Christmas album. I will sheepishly admit that I have listened to it probably 30 times already and its not even Thanksgiving! But She and Him are one of my favorite bands and this would be a great album on vinyl.

The National- High Violet. I didn't even know this was released on vinyl! This is a must have! I mean, can't you just hear that rich voice on a record? Ah, it would be heavenly!

I'll never forget the time when I found a mint condition record of my favorite Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young album. I feel like having this Fleet Foxes record would be somewhat equal to that experience.

This is one of my favorite albums of all time! I was skeptical about how electro music would sound on vinyl, but I bought the postal service album a year ago and it was awesome! So I feel like this would be a cool album to have on vinyl too.
